Head of Project Management Office

About this job

Company based in Johannesburg South has a vacancy available for a Project Management Office Head with at least 10 years’ experience in PMO Management, Project and Program Management. The main purpose of the Head Project Management Office is to take overall responsibility for the client collaboration, analysis, planning and execution of activities to ensure delivery of group and product project management solutions and effective project communications for RSA and Africa Business Units.


Qualifications/Knowledge (including most relevant field of study)

Project Management qualification

PMP or PGMP Certification

Required computer literacy levels in the MS Office suite and applicable Project Management Applications

Experience (including relevant sector specific experience)

Experience in ICT Application development

Minimum 10 years’ experience in PMO Management,  Project and Program Management

Experience in Payments and Banking industry will be an advantage.



Financial Management    

Improve profitability of products or services, by reducing initial project costs, improving efficiency and maximising productivity

Provide input into and manage cost centre forecasting, budgeting, cost management, cost optimisation and reporting

Prepares detailed cost estimates and documentation for project funding authorization on industry projects. 

Stakeholder Management           

Develop and maintain good stakeholder relationships (internal and external)

Identify trends and opportunities and communicate or escalate as required and appropriate

Manage the delivery of internal and external stakeholder requirements/SLA’s and resolve escalated issues

Delivery of Processes / Projects           

Strategic Alignment

Ensure team and individual goals are aligned to BU strategy, documented, clearly understood and regularly reviewed

Initiatives/ projects for continuous improvement   

Identify and scope opportunities for improvement / innovation

Deploy client or company specific projects in line with company standards and in agreement with line manager

Planning, and Communication        

Design, development  and drive the execution of annual company-wide Project  and Program planning calendar

Coordinate activities and report on progress against the annual Project  and Program calendar

Report and present to executive management and the Company board and Board Sub-committees as required

Industry and client program collaboration 

Manage programs, projects and project managers participating in collaborative solutions to ensure successful management, coordination and completion of all efforts

Ensure regular project management reviews and updates with industry Project and Program Managers

Manages industry project closure reviews and celebrations

Project management - Responsible for ensuring that project managers:

Develop and monitor schedules and budgets for assigned projects

Identify and evaluate alternative solutions to best meet program goals

Manage efforts of other corporate support functions such as legal, service level negotiations, disaster recovery and BCP procedure updates, security, facilities and systems

Ensure key governance controls and processes are effectively implemented Special Projects

Manage special studies, initiatives, RFI and RFP projects along with due diligence assignments

Participate in or oversee the pre-qualification and bid evaluation process for consultants and vendors introduced to projects

Compliance and Risk Management       

Policies and procedures: Develop, amend, review  and implement relevant policies and procedures  Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures, regulation and legislation

Risk: Ensure risks are identified, reported on and mitigated

People Management         

People Process: Manage employees through the employee lifecycle including recruit, manage performance, develop and reward

Development Processes:  Build a high performance team through regular individual and team engagement sessions. Coach, mentor and develop to ensure talent retention
