Murray & Roberts Power and Energy Projects invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of QC Systems Manager for the Medupi Site reporting to the QA/QC Manager. The project entails the building of 6 x 780 MW Coal Fired Super Critical Boiler for the coal fired Medupi Power Station to be erected at the Medupi Site at Lephalale ,Limpopo, South Africa.

Minimum Requirements...

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • Three years satisfactory experience in a Management position.
  • Five years experience in fabrication / construction of power, petrochemical, mining or process plant welding control activities.
  • Good understanding of industry acceptable welding control systems
  • The ability to optimize tasks and procedures for maximum efficiency.
  • The ability to think up and implement innovative ways to solve / simplify complex and or repetitive problems.
  • Good understanding of data book requirements and compilation of books.
  • A welding background will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the following or equivalent codes of construction

    a. EN 12952 Water-tube boilers and auxiliary installations

    b. EN 13480 Metallic Industrial Piping

    c. AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Fabrication Codes

    d. ISO 9000

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Matric
  • Welding Inspection Level 2
  • AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Fabrication Code
  • ISO 9000
  • RT Interpreters
  • EN 12952 Water-tube boilers and auxiliary installations
  • EN 13480 Metallic Industrial Piping
  • An intermediate understanding of the following software packages:
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Outlook (sending and receiving information and tasks from multiple users)
  • Good understanding of industry acceptable welding control systems

Job Specification...


The QC Process Systems Manager will manage, establish, monitor, supervise and report on all operations needed that have and input in compiling the Final Data Work Packs for all supporting welding documentation as well as the personal within these four different departments.

The QC Process System Manager will control, monitor, measure, update the ITP Register and follow up on all road blocks that computerized the Weld Pac system of capturing the site welding information into the System. The QC Process System Manager will give feedback daily at the ITP Meeting on outstanding Non-Destructive test and heat treatment activities associated with the planned  boiler pressure, boiler piping and Structural carried out by site welding department.


  • The QC Process Systems Manager will support the QC Site Offices, Data Book Reviewers, NDT Office, Weld Pac System Office and Contruction Departments to ensure regular and timely processing and reporting of all welding activities to be captured into the Weld Pac System daily.
  • The QC Process Systems Manager will support the QC Review department with missing and correcting of documentation for building of the Data Book Work Packs as per final Completion of Weld Comprehensives for tractability.
  • The QC Process Systems Manager will manage and support the Weld Pac Systems Manager and Supervisors with their daily task to meet System Pressure test planned dates and outstanding Supporting documentation from Site Construction.  

  1. Within the limits of the Project policies and procedures the QC Process Systems Manager has the responsibility and commensurate authority to accomplish the following duties:

  • Conceptually identify content and format of the Weld Pac System, Data Review Office of its outputs, input, workflows, procedures and integration requirements into other department systems
  • Manage all received site welding documents and implementation of onsite systems and ongoing operation that affect the Weld Pac System and Data Book Office
  • Align department personnel with W.P. System and Data Book Office departmental objectives
  • Evaluate performance of personnel and Performance Manage if required
  • Ensure accurate input of operational data is captured into the System
  • Compile a final report from each department heads and issue the Top Management Monthly on the current status
  • Monitor the Data Book Work Pack handover of all welding records in accordance with the project program for all Units Pressure Parts and Non-Pressure Parts to the Client for review
  • Manage the appointed department supervisors and verify the Post weld heat treatment documentation received from the Clients subcontractor to MRPE and the control of all NDT’s before and after PWHT, insure the chart administration and handover to QC Data Book Review department for report filing
  • Manage the information received from the Ducting, Airheater, Structural Steel and non-Pressure Part  documentation captured into the Weld Pac System Department that needs to be compiled by the Data Book Office
