Purpose of the role is to:
To manage the implementation of a single project in a specified area within the Implementation Research Unit.


Study operations set up and management with assistance from Scientist and Senior Programme Manager where applicable (daily)
•Responsible for conducting ethical and regulatory activities with regards to a specific project
•Development and/or revision of research implementation plan for specific project
•Responsible for the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work procedure guidelines (WPGs) for a specific project
•Responsible for consulting core resource units in relevant implementation activities, as required
•Responsible for developing partner agreements for specific project
•Oversee the recruitment and training of relevant research teams
•Responsible for communication with stakeholders regarding study set up and status
•Responsible for community mobilisation/involvement planning activities as it pertains to the project
•Overseeing operations close out and providing guidance, as required

Oversight and implementation of research project with support from the Scientist,
•Daily management of all relevant staff to ensure adherence to protocols, SOPs and WPGs
•Timely, accurate, complete, efficient and ethical collection of data from study participants

Research regulatory management with support from Regulatory Officer, Principal Investigator or designee (irregular intervals)
•Submission of protocol to all relevant regulatory bodies for approval, including; Institutional Review Board (IRB), Medicines control council (MCC), Provincial and local approvals, and GMO approvals
•Ensure timely updating and submission of protocol amendments to all relevant regulatory bodies
•Where applicable ensure timely recertification of study protocol to all relevant regulatory bodies

Budget management and cost control with support from Finance and Senior Programme Manager (Daily)
•Ensure that the correct budget/s approved by the funder/sponsor are loaded onto the Aurum Finance System
Analyze and investigate variances of cost reports and provide detailed explanation for the variance
Liaise with internal and external customers
•Liaise with all Internal Customers and External Customers and Suppliers when necessary towards the achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
Liaise with all business partners and industry analysis within the Business Unit

Human Capital Management
1.Supervision of project management staff through:
•Identify and address staff issues between the Site Staff
•Facilitate staff training as required
•Keep record of staff leave and follow up on sick notes
•Completing of staff performance reporting on a quarterly basis
2.Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures according to prescribed procedures and legislation
3.Report all unsafe activities to Senior Management/Human Resources
4.Adhere and maintain Decision making authority as allocated to the position
5.Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
6.Adheres to all management SOP’s ,guidelines and confidential agreements
7.Mentoring and coaching of sub-ordinates
8.Supervision of sub ordinates by providing guidance and in- service training to identify and address all challenges
9.Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
Qualification / Professional Membership
•Bachelors degree
•Masters degree would be an advantage

Work Experience
•Track record of demonstrated implementation of projects
•At least 2-3 years’ experience in the conduct of TB/HIV epidemiology studies
•Valid driver’s license, own transport and must be prepared to travel
•Occasional overnight travel( up to 20%) by land and / or air

•Good interpersonal skills
•Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

•Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office, STATA
•Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics etc.
