“Wits University is doing all it can to diffuse the current situation on campus and are making another attempt to engage with the students,” University spokesperson Shirona Patel said in a statement.
Schooling was disrupted when a large group of students on Wednesday began protesting against a scheduled 10.5% increase in fees for next year.
The protesting students blocked university entrances, preventing the institution from functioning as normal.
Patel said the university has taken a decision to postpone all university activities on all campuses on Friday. This except for the medical school campus.
Their main reason for doing so was for the safety and security of both students and staff.
