The oversight included a visit to a number of NYDA funded and assisted beneficiary businesses and projects in East London and surrounds.
The oversight visit is one in a series of visits to be conducted by the Portfolio Committee.
The visits are aimed at:
To assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the NYDA regional offices in mainstreaming and facilitating youth development in local communities
To determine the accessibility of young people from rural areas in receiving NYDA services
To monitor the provision of the grant funding (financial and non-financial), education and skills development to the youth in the Eastern Cape Province.
To evaluate the impact of the grant funding to assess whether it has benefitted and created more job opportunities for the youth
During the visits the Committee was accompanied by NYDA Executive Chairperson Mr Yershen Pillay.
“Overall the Committee was satisfied with the work the Agency has done in reaching out to young people. However, the need to always reach out to more and expand our reach and impact will always be there, in as long as the majority of young people remain underprivileged and unemployed,” says Pillay.
“Therefore our work continues and we are determined with the little that we have, to assist as much as we can,” he says.
