Siphiwe Shabangu, a 35-year-old from Khayelitsha got bit by the entrepreneurial bug.
Although he qualified as an electrical engineer from Vaal University of Technology, Siphiwe made it his business to follow his dreams of being his own boss. His curiosity in the motor car industry found him interning at a friend’s business, where he spent a lot of time learning the operations motor spares shop.
After he grasped the ins and outs of the business, he decided to start his own thing. 2013 was the year Siphiwe used his savings to open Shab’s Auto & Motor Spares.
Shab’s Auto & Motor was struggling to meet the demand due to insufficient stock. Customers would come looking for certain car components and Shab’s Auto Spares could not supply. This ultimately lead all disappointed customers to bigger companies.
To help his struggling business, Siphiwe approached the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) for assistance. He received an NYDA Grant funding to subsidise his stock to the value of R 49 900. Now that his stock room received a boost, he had to employ 3 more young people to assist with promotion and sales!
“We at Shab’s Auto & Motor Spares are grateful to the NYDA and the staff for their patience and guidance they provided throughout the funding process. Our challenge was shortage of stock and lack of human capital. We are now in a position where we can break even stage. Thank you NYDA”- Siphiwe Shabangu
