JAZZ LUNCH HOUR CONCERT – 13:05, Wednesday 14 September 2016, South Campus Auditorium
This concert will showcase several ensembles which reflect the diversity of musical expertise that characterises the NMMU music department.
The 18-piece NMMU Big Band is always guaranteed to captivate and entertain. Now in its seventh year of existence, the 2016 incarnation of the band will perform a varied repertoire – including the evergreen Tuxedo Junction, Tsakwe by Abdullah Ibrahim, Classiquando (a fiery Afro-Cuban classic) and the bold and brassyStrumpet (written and arranged by NMMU jazz studies lecturer, pianist and big band director John Edwards).
A quartet featuring Cuan Geere on guitar, Mthoko Mabuza on piano, Tiago Vital on bass and Timon Oosthuizen on drums will also be performing.
Entrance is free and enquiries can be directed to Nicky Bosman (041 504 4235).
